Jamie David is a writer, artist and former teacher living on the island of Maui. Born and raised in small town Pennsylvania, Jamie moved west after college and settled in San Francisco at an exciting time in the life of the city. The westward migration continued in 1986 when she and her husband Ralph made the move to Hawaii.

During her teaching years, "why can’t we read something fun?" was the frequent refrain from her middle grade English students. She thought a story set in Hawaii would grab their interest - it must be entertaining and informative too. A search found nothing that fit the bill. Thus, Johann Sebastian Humpbach was born, inspired by and dedicated to Hawaii’s keiki.
